I love just about all living things, with a few exceptions; I really dislike mosquitoes, the bug they call “no see ums” (they are attracted to moisture so they go for your eyes, nose and mouth!) and fleas. I enjoy sitting outsid3 and just watching the busyness of nature! Most of us don’t realize it, but these little creatures will work themselves to death! In 2024, I was finding bumble bees exhausted and sleeping in my squash flowers! Due to the heat I would need to water the plants and sometimes I had to do so with them still in the flowers because they wouldn’t wake up and when they finally did, you could tell from the way they walked, they were exhausted. This page will have some the coolest insects I’ve located here, but know there are 100s if not 1000s more that I’m not showing you! If you enjoy entomology you will love it here!

This is a Writing Spider.

The locals claim that due to the “z” pattern in its web that this spider can write and they have horror tale about this beautiful creature. They claim that if you smile and show your teeth to it, it will write your name in its web and you will die!

It’s never written my name, but I have smiled and it’s seen my teeth! I collect spiders to protect plants that my mom planted so in a summer it’s not uncommon to see a 100 or more in the flowers, bushes and trees. This has a tendency to freak the locals out because sound or the vibration of sounds gets their attention and they will come forward in the plants. Some say I have train3d them to attack, but I haven’t. I do catch worms, crickets and etc., to throw in their webs to ensure they have plenty to eat.

The Assassin Bug

I have just started seeing these beautiful little guys in the last couple of years. You would think with the name assassin it would be more aggressive, but in nature they are in fact a predator. There are 3 types of these little guys; ambush predator, aquatic and little vampires! Well not really vampires, but they do the same, they are blood suckers!

Bumble Bee with a Pollen Ball

Unknown Species

I have shared this video to some bug people and they are thinking it’s a type of mantis and are currently researching it! When I know I will post it!
